Co-sponsored by the German Society of Maryland and the Arion Club (the oldest German music club in MD circa 1850). Come learn traditional German songs and some German conversation with Mr. Steven Harper, president of the German Society of Maryland. The entire proceeds from ticket sales will go directly to the Arion Club. From Mr. Harper:
Want to have more fun at German beer festivals? Join us for the first in a series of one-hour sessions designed to prepare you for your next beer festival or visit to the #schnitzelgang. Learn how to introduce yourself, engage in simple conversation, and sing some of the common German drinking songs. All levels of German speakers and singers are welcome!
German for Beer Festivals is your chance to get a friendly introduction to German, bush up your high school German, or ask a live teacher about the things that puzzle you in your Duolingo course. Volunteers from the German Society of Maryland and the Arion Gesang-Verein (Baltimore’s own German singing society founded in 1850) will get you ready for your next beer festival. Experienced German speakers are also welcome to join the conversation and singing.
Each session will start with a brief German lesson focusing on practical beerhall German, like ordering your beer and introducing yourself to the people sharing your table. We will practice speaking German in a friendly, no-pressure environment. Of course, you can order a round of beer from the bar–a glass of beer can help anyone speak German better!
In the second half of each session, we will learn some of the popular German drinking songs under the guidance of singers from the Arion Singing Society. Come early and enjoy some schnitzel and beer beforehand. Lederhosen and dirndls not required.
